Punched and forced to eat chilli padi - this is the purported ordeal endured by Malacca Parti Pribumi Malaysia Bersatu (Bersatu) Youth chief Ramlan Meon.

At a press conference today, Malacca Bersatu pointed the finger at Umno supporters as well as the state's city council (MBMB) officers and demanded an apology.

In a police report lodged over the incident, Ramlan claimed that his friend, who is an Umno member, had invited him to meet on Monday over a dispute with MBMB officers who had removed Bersatu flags from a bridge a day earlier.

“As I reached the restaurant around 8.40pm, I suddenly saw a group of around 10 men including (Umno supporters) and several MBMB officers along with some men I didn't know waiting for me.

“I was punched several times in the face by (the men) holding an unidentified object and my head was smacked a few times.

“I was forced to swallow a fistful of chilli padi by the men. One of them threatened to stab me with a knife. He claimed the knife was in his bag...,” he stated in the report lodged on Tuesday sighted by Malaysiakini.

Meanwhile, a video has been uploaded on YouTube which showed a group of men clad in T-shirts with the Bersatu logo in a heated argument with enforcement officers.

According to the caption, the argument was over Bersatu flags in Klebang, Malacca.

In the video, the men in Bersatu T-shirts are seen shouting obscenities and flashing rude gestures at the MBMB officers.

As the officers tried to calm them, the men continued yelling, asking about the BN flags placed next to their flags along the bridge.

One of the men then climbed onto the side of the bridge and tore several of the BN flags.

In his police report, Ramlan claimed that they had apologised to the officers and vice versa after the incident.

Speaking to Malaysiakini, the Malacca Bersatu Youth chief said he suffered injuries to his eye and cheek.

Contacted later, a spokesperson for the Malacca city mayor's office declined to comment and claimed to be unaware of the video.
