Painting a bleak picture of Pakatan Harapan's political future, Nazri Abdul Aziz described the combination of Dr Mahathir Mohamad and Anwar Ibrahim as "fratricidal".

"My feeling is good because they are going to kill each other," the culture and tourism minister told reporters in Kuala Lumpur when quizzed on the matter.

"I want it to be a long death, it is no fun (tak syiok) if it is a quick death... They are going to die after the next general election," he said.

Nazri, who is also an Umno supreme council member, said Harapan would not pose a threat to BN.

"They are murderers and they will kill each other, how can (they) be a threat?" he added.

Last week, it was announced that Mahathir would be the chairperson of Harapan whereas Anwar would serve as the coalition's de facto leader.

Their political alliance is unprecedented, given their bitter feud in the past.

Meanwhile, Nazri also sardonically said Mahathir was so full of himself by "apologising" for elevating Najib Razak as the prime minister.

"I don't understand why he had to apologise. First, Najib did not make any mistake; secondly, it was Abdullah Ahmad Badawi who promoted Najib, not Mahathir.

"So, don't be so full of yourself. Rest at home instead of being humiliated by the community," he said.

Mahathir had in the past, "apologised" for making Najib the prime minister as the latter "was not like his father" - former premier Abdul Razak Hussein.

Nazri said Mahathir was exacting vengeance on Najib as his son Mukhriz had failed in his quest for the Umno Youth chief and Umno vice-president positions in the 2009 and 2013 party elections. 

According to Nazri, Mahathir was also angry with the fact that Abdullah (Ahmad Badawi's) son-in-law Khairy Jamaluddin was appointed minister but Mukhriz was dropped as Kedah menteri besar. 

He further claimed that the US Department of Justice (DOJ) had filed the civil forfeiture suits to seize assets bought from funds purportedly swindled from 1MDB, in a "mala fide" manner. 

"If they (DOJ) have evidence, they will charge the prime minister (Najib in court). Since they do not have evidence but act in a mala fide manner, they named Malaysian Official 1 (MO1). 

"Who the hell is MO1? As far as we know MO1 is nobody. The wife of MO1 can be anybody," he said.
