Selangor exco in charge of education Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad has shot back at Rosmah Mansor’s aide Rizal Mansor who had yesterday criticised the way Menteri Besar Incorporated (MBI) handled the Universiti Selangor (Unisel) and Jana Niaga Sdn Bhd issue.

“Rizal should stop acting like a warrior defending the rights of the students and stop talking on behalf of Unisel.

“If he really wants to be a warrior, then answer the issues on 1MDB, Felda, Lembaga Tabung Angkatan Tentera, KWAP and so on,” Nik Nazmi said in a statement today.

The issues previously brought up by Rizal have already been answered by MBI, he added.

Rizal had yesterday questioned whether any arbitration was held in the disagreement between Unisel and Jana Niaga.

He cited supposedly leaked documents from a website, Selangor Leaks, where it claimed that MBI tried to settle the issue on behalf of Unisel with Jana Niaga, even though Unisel did not agree with the terms of the settlement.

The documents also alleged that MBI paid RM10 million to Jana Niaga as part of the settlement, which was considered a debt from Unisel to MBI.

Rizal had urged for an answer to these allegations, but Nik Nazmi, however, dismissed these allegations.

“It is most annoying that Rizal is speaking as if on behalf of Unisel, even though Unisel, itself was involved in the settlement of this dispute, have decided among the board of directors to continue discussions with all stakeholders.

“At this time, Unisel and Jana Niaga also no longer have any contract relationship,” he said.

He also said Unisel’s finances are very stable right now and with the new line-up of leadership and the state government’s support, there are already plenty of positive changes.

Unisel employees even had an increase in salary this year after five years of stagnant salary.

The university infrastructure has also been given more funding, as proof of the Selangor state government’s commitment to upgrade the quality of the university, he said.
