Isa Samad arrested

Former Felda Global Ventures chairperson Mohd Isa Abdul Samad was arrested to facilitate the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission's (MACC) investigation into the company's hotel purchases.

Tourism and Culture Minister Nazri Abdul Aziz rapped Perkasa as "small minded" for complaining that the East Coast Rail Link launch, a project spearheaded by China, was "too Chinese".

Perkasa rebutted by warning that with leaders like Nazri, Malay interests would suffer.

Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, who is also home minister, said the Prevention of Crime Act (Poca) used by the current government had better checks and balances compared with the Internal Security Act used during Dr Mahathir Mohamad's era.

Zahid also slammed human rights activists for criticising Poca, accusing them of being defenders of crime.

PKR's Padang Serai MP N Surendran rebutted Zahid, calling his comment unjustified and unbecoming of his office.

Rosmah sued over US$23m pink diamond

Former Umno leader Khairuddin Abu Hassan filed a suit against the prime minister's wife, Rosmah Mansor, over a US$23 million pink diamond that is a subject of the US civil forfeiture suit in relation to alleged misappropriation of 1MDB funds.

Amanah and DAP Youth expressed concern at PKR's engagement with PAS, with Amanah saying it was not informed of PKR's visit to PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang, while DAP Youth claimed PKR's informal talks with PAS were done exclusive of the other Harapan parties.

PAS lawmaker Khairuddin Aman Razali warned that Harapan's electoral cooperation talks are aimed at turning PAS into the coalition's stooge.

Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng apologised if the state's policy of maintaining illegal structures from the BN era had caused problems for the people.

Finance Minister II Johari Abdul Ghani said the federal government has no issue with Penang applying for a loan from China to finance its RM27 billion Penang Transport Master Plan - but it has yet to receive an application from the state.

Hadi claims Memali poser caused fracas

PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang claimed it was Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) chairperson Dr Mahathir Mohamad's response on the Memali tragedy that had triggered the fracas at the "Nothing to Hide 2" function last Sunday.

PAS Youth member Mohamad Zuhdi Mat Piah, the son of a survivor of the Memali tragedy, which took place when Mahathir was prime minister, accused Mahathir of having blood on his hands.

Mahathir maintained that those in the Memali incident in 1985 were bound to face action for killing cops.

The former prime minister added that the fracas during the "Nothing to Hide 2" event was aimed at silencing him.

He also warned that violence during the event was a sign of what is to come if Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak loses power.

Umno supreme council member Nazri Abdul Aziz said Mahathir had "asked for it" when objects were hurled at him during the "Nothing to Hide 2" event.

Police arrested seven more men over the fracas, bringing the total arrests to 10.

Perbadanan Nasional Bhd president Abdul Wahid Omar explained the slow pace of construction of the PNB118 tower, stating that a lot of work needed to be done at the ground level when it came to building the fifth tallest building in the world.
