The MACC summoned an aide of Selangor Menteri Besar Mohamed Azmin Ali for questioning in relation to their investigations into Universiti Selangor (Unisel).

Yin Shao Loong, Azmin's strategic communications director, said he was questioned over a statement he made last week concerning MACC raids on Unisel and four other places including Menteri Besar Incorporated (MBI) and Jana Niaga Sdn Bhd.

"Basically I was giving a statement about my statement," Yin told reporters after his questioning ended.

In his statement last week, Yin had expressed dismay over the MACC raids on Selangor institutions, which he said was aimed at tarnishing the state government's image.

He said while the MACC is welcome to carry out investigations, they should be professional and not bow to political pressure.

Yin said he was questioned for five hours today. Besides being asked about his statement, Yin said he was also asked about why he tweeted about the MACC summons issued to him.

"I told them it was my private Twitter account, I can post whatever I want on it," he said.

Yin also recalled what happened to the late Teoh Beng Hock, whom he said was a co-worker.

"When Teoh went to the see the MACC, he didn't come back. So it's good to let people know where you are," he said.

Teoh had fallen to his death while under MACC custody in 2009.

The raids are believed to have stemmed from reports lodged against Azmin and MBI over a dispute between Unisel and Jana Niaga.

Jana Niaga allegedly received monetary compensation from Unisel, despite failing to fulfil its contract.

MBI has claimed, however, that the payment to Jana Niaga was made following court arbitration, and threatened to sue anyone who accused it of corruption relating to the payment.

Azmin said that MBI will cooperate with the MACC on all matters related to the investigation, but added that the “harassment and intimidation” against MBI and Unisel Besar are due to jealousy of what the Selangor state government has managed to achieve.
