Federal opposition pact Pakatan Harapan has set Johor as its frontline state to lead their march to Putrajaya, Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) president Muhyiddin Yassin said today.

Speaking during a press conference after chairing a Johor Harapan meeting, Muhyiddin said preparations are already underway to coordinate the parties’ machinery at all levels in the state.

“We (Harapan) view Johor as a frontline state.

“This means that the signal for a Harapan victory in Putrajaya will start with our victory in Nusajaya,” said the Pagoh MP in reference to Johor’s state administrative capital.

As part of its preparations, Muhyiddin said the "Luaskan Harapan" campaign was launched to raise awareness on the coalition’s agenda and promises to the people.

This was done ahead of Johor Harapan’s official launch on Sept 29 and a state convention scheduled for some time next month, he added.

Muhyiddin remained coy, however, when asked whether there would be high-profile candidates fielded in the state.

“Wait and see. We will know when the time comes,” the Johor Harapan chief said, adding that Bersatu is still in the process of finalising its candidates list in Johor and other states.

At the parliamentary level, Muhyiddin said the Harapan presidential council has agreed to finalise their seat negotiations within a week’s time, to be followed by the remaining state seats.

Bersatu had recently held its first anniversary celebrations in Muar, recognising the district's role as a launchpad for the party's Northern Johor assault.
