Putrajaya has not encountered any difficulty in formulating a law to regulate political funding despite the complexity of its nature, Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Paul Low said.

"It's quite a complicated bill that requires a lot of further consultation.

"No difficulty. We are working on it," Low said.

He said the proposed Political Donations and Expenditure Act (PDEA) may be tabled in Parliament for first reading next year.

"We have established a technical committee with the various ministries and various experts and we are now on course for drafting (the bill)," he said when met in Putrajaya today.

Previously, Low had said that the bill might not be tabled in Parliament in time for the 14th general election.

On Aug 14, 2015, Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak announced the formation of the National Consultative Committee on Political Funding to draw up a comprehensive and inclusive action plan of integrity for political funding.

This came following revelation that Najib had received RM2.6 billion in his bank accounts prior to the 2013 general election.

Earlier this month, DAP lawmaker Lim Lip Eng cast doubt on the seriousness of Putrajaya in implementing the new bill as it initially wanted the bill to be tabled in 2016.

The PDEA is one of 32 recommendations put up by the National Consultative Committee on Political Financing, chaired by Low, in 2015.
