IGP justifies probe on Ambiga; Gerakan tells Chinese not to be fooled

KINI ROUNDUP | Here are the key headlines you may have missed yesterday, in brief.

IGP justifies probe on Ambiga

Inspector-general of police Mohamad Fuzi Harun justified the probe against former Bar Council president Ambiga Sreenevasan, citing the severity of Sarawak Report editor Clare Rewcastle-Brown's allegations against PAS.

Police are also sending a third investigation paper to the Attorney-General's Chambers on MACC chief Dzulkifli Ahmad's alleged affair.

Fuzi said police are keeping tabs on preacher Zakir Naik, and that action will be taken if necessary.

The top cop clarified that Terengganu police chief Aidi Ismail did not mean to make a racial remark when the latter said the state is gangsterism-free due to Malays being the majority.

Don't be fooled again, Gerakan tells Chinese

Gerakan Wanita chief Tan Lian Hoe urged the Chinese to "wake up and return to the right path" saying the opposition, especially DAP, had failed to fulfill its promises.

The Gerakan women's wing also moved a motion urging MPs to reject PAS' bid to strengthen Islamic criminal laws.

Gerakan Youth proposed a motion to limit datukships to those above the age of 40, following a case where a 29-year-old "Datuk Seri" assaulted Rela officers.

Other Kinibites

Malaysiakini profiles the Rohingya victims of Penang's floods, who may not be getting any government aid.

All Penang flood relief centres ceased operations yesterday, while residents in Hulu Langat and Dengkil were forced out of their homes due to flood waters.

Taman Desa residents ramped up their protest to protect a "green lung" from being razed for development.

Looking ahead

Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi will officiate the annual Gerakan national delegates' conference in Cheras today.

DAP will hold its central executive committee re-elections at the Ideal Convention Centre in Shah Alam.
