Police officers may be known for many things but being singers in an overnight video sensation is probably not one of them. 

But that's exactly what the top officers of the Selangor police have achieved with their now-viral "Aku memang polis" (I am police) video clip, which has garnered over 66,000 views since it was uploaded in the Friends of PDRM Facebook page on Wednesday night.

The song, sung in the tune of singer Ramsa's "Aku budak kampung", gives "subtle" advice to cops to carry out their duties with full of commitment.

Selangor CID chief SAC Fadzil Ahmat, who penned the lyrics to the song and also one of those who sang it, said the production of the video clip did not involve any cost.

"The aim of the song is to advise police officers and personnel in a light-hearted manner.

"It advises cops to be stern when needed, and friendly and helpful to the people when the situation asks for it," he told Malaysiakini.

Among others, the three-minute 36-second song reminds members of the force that they took up the career by choice, and therefore, integrity should be maintained at all times.

It also advises the men in blue to not tell lies or risk being sacked from the force.

Fadzil said he was shocked by the warm reception to the song.

"We did not shoot the clip to make it viral, we were just hoping it would be accepted by the people. I am glad the people, especially netizens, took it in a positive manner."

Also seen "performing" in the video are deputy Selangor police chief Ab Rashid Ab Wahab, management chief Sulaiman Salleh and other heads of department of the state police.
