Yoursay: ‘Chinese supporting Dr M not for Mahathirism, but Reformasi’

YOURSAY | ‘Communities of all ethnicities are fed up with a gov’t that has negative moral standing.’

Chinese support for Dr M puzzles MCA man

Clever Voter: MCA Religious Harmony Bureau secretary Chris Daniel Wong needs no reminder that targeting Pakatan Harapan chairperson Dr Mahathir Mohamad is counterproductive. He needs no reminder on why Mahathir had to return to politics.

Understandably Wong speaks on behalf of MCA, a party that, ironically, was rescued on many occasions by Mahathir himself.

Wong needs to be told that communities of all ethnicities are fed up with a government that has negative moral standing. He is obviously ignoring the future dangers of an establishment that can never tell wrong from right, and which should never be trusted with the future at hand.

Focusing on Mahathir is a mistake; Wong should reflect on the current context.

Kheng: Wong, you claimed Mahathir was an authoritarian ruler for 22 years, during which he was complicit in the Bumiputra Malaysia Finance (BMF) scandal and later interfered in the judicial system by sacking and suspending several top judges.

Have you conveniently forgotten that MCA was in Mahathir's cabinet too? Hence, isn't MCA a willing partner in all of Mahathir's injustices too? I didn't hear MCA complaining then.

Anonymous #44199885: And who is this leader of sincerity that you had in mind?

Has the current leadership shown itself to be trustworthy? Has MCA ever publicly voiced its disdain over the Felda and 1MDB scandals, the rising cost of living, GST, or rising religious and racial extremism?

Ask yourself - is there any reason why the rakyat should trust MCA, a party that founded the country?

When a certain NGO leader poured scorn over the contributions of non-Malays in the fight against the communists, British, and Japanese occupiers, where was MCA? It was the Malay veterans in the armed forces and police who defended the honour of their non-Malay brethren.

So before you speak, ask first what is the value proposition that MCA brings to the rakyat, that we should support it and BN.

Hopeful123: Anybody in Mahathir's shoes would have opted to stay out of politics and enjoy his twilight years. Yet, at 92, Mahathir has accepted Harapan's request to lead the coalition and be the next prime minister should the opposition win the next general election.

Malaysians, not only the Chinese, accept Mahathir wholeheartedly for the role he is playing to redeem the nation for a better and brighter future.

Newday: Wong, do you not understand the concept of “your enemy is my enemy”?

Do you not understand that Malaysians (at least in the cities) are acutely aware of how full of corruption and cronyism this government is? Do you not understand the concept of “let bygones be bygones”?

Do you not understand what is happening to the Chinese community in front of your face? Do you not understand that this country cannot go on existing in this environment of fear and loathing?

Brave Malaysian: The Chinese are not championing Mahathirism but Reformasi. We are not pro-BN only because of the way MCA has betrayed the Chinese and is still not in tune with the community.

In addition, you have not been able to speak out against 1MDB, unless of course if you also think there is no wrongdoing there.

Dizzer: Nobody is under any illusions about the old man (I hated him back in the 90s) but the one-party rule of Umno and all the distortion and corruption that entails has to stop for the sake of the country. Once they lose power, we at least have a chance of a new type of politics.

Surely MCA, MIC, PPP and the parties of East Malaysia will jump ship once they feel the winds of change. Last chance, saloon guys.

Hey, what's so wrong about being lazy?

Anonymous 941301434435672: My compliments (to Malaysiakini columnist Fa Abdul) on a short but excellent piece demonstrating an understanding of what laziness means. As you point out, different people have different ideas about what inspires and satisfies them.

This article should be food for thought for many of us. I, too, am lazy - always looking out for shortcuts for work I have to do.

Paul Warren: Laziness can be a virtue. Laziness does not equal irresponsible. The task that needs to be done is still done. Except a lazy person gets it done in the most efficient and least "costly" way so that he or she can spend more time lazing.

The hard worker gets the same thing done and he derives his pleasure from being commended for his hard work. End of the day, same outcome.

Anonymous 2419401464142136: There is a difference between being lazy and being contented. A person can be hardworking but contented - in which case he/she can or is willing to work but chooses to work less and hence not have as many material possessions.

A person can also be lazy and contented - the difference being that he/she is unwilling to work harder even if it can result in more material possessions but is also happy with what he/she has.

So, it would generally be "bad" to be lazy but not so if you're contented. Again, there is a difference.

Vgeorgemy: In the Malaysian context, being lazy is the situation of not doing the job you agreed to do.

Mahathir is clear about his definition of inertia/laziness. Leaving early from the job you undertook just because of personal comfort is the clear example he mentioned.

Anyone can be lazy at his or her cost; it is permissible under our constitution under the right to life and liberty.
