It's now or never, sings Kit Siang; Cops say Siti Hasmah not 'interrogated'

KINI ROUNDUP | Here are the key headlines you may have missed yesterday, in brief.

It's now or never, says Kit Siang

DAP veteran Lim Kit Siang said the 14th general election is the last chance to oust BN in the next 20 years.

The DAP parliamentary leader said he saw similarities between Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak and US President Donald Trump while reading Michael Wolff’s "Fire and Fury: Inside the Trump White House” when recuperating from his tumor removal surgery.

Looking back, Kit Siang said he had fears he would not make it post-surgery.

According to him, the Ayer Hitam parliamentary seat in Johor currently held by MCA deputy president Wee Ka Siong, is the seat that decides whether Pakatan Harapan makes it in Johor and to Putrajaya.

Cops say Siti Hasmah was not 'interrogated'

Police say former premier Dr Mahathir Mohamad's wife, Dr Siti Hasmah Mohd Ali, merely had her statement taken and was not interrogated over her participation in a rally last September.

Siti Hasmah was also dropped as the patron of the Wheelchair Tennis Malaysia (WTM) purportedly due to a "committee reshuffle", her aide confirmed.

Her son and Bersatu deputy president Mukhriz Mahathir said he is not ashamed of calling himself Malaysian, following the "Brunei citizen" misreporting fiasco, but is merely angry about issues plaguing the country.

Mukhriz also reportedly played peacemaker when a group of disgruntled Bersatu members disrupted the Negeri Sembilan Harapan convention yesterday due to an alleged lack of seats allocated in the election.

Other Kinibites

Perlis mufti Mohd Asri Zainul Abidin lamented voters are more concerned about their candidates' personal scandals than billions lost by politicians.

Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak claimed civil servants in the country were more patriotic than certain quarters because they were loyal to the government of the day.

Tourism and Culture Minister Nazri Aziz said the ministry has no plans to retract the much-criticised Visit Malaysia 2020 logo.

PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang slammed “rich” Arab leaders who allegedly tried to buy out the Palestinian's claim on Jerusalem.

Looking ahead

The Federal Court will decide on the case of unilateral conversion of a minor, involving M Indira Gandhi and her ex-husband and convert Ridhuan Abdullah.

The KL High court will decide on premier Najib's 1MDB stay application against youth movement Ganti over having to file defence.
