Perlis mufti Mohd Asri Zainul Abidin today advised voters to cast their votes based on their respective candidates' stands and debates, and not make personal attacks. 

"There is no need to bring the candidates' personal issues to the ceramah. 

“If you want to talk, talk about issues that are related to the public, like the loss of RM50 million or RM500 billion.

“Come on, we like to talk about other people’s personal issues. But we ourselves have issues too.

“Do not talk about those (personal issues), talk about things that are of public interest,” he said in a video uploaded on his Facebook page today.

Asri also criticised the rakyat’s tendency to focus more on someone’s personal issues than bigger wrongdoings that affect the country by a leader.

“Our society is like that: personal sins are big, but sins that involve the public, we leave it be.

“If someone commits khalwat (close proximity), it will go to the newspapers, six years later, it will still be an issue; but if someone steals RM5 billion, they (the public) are relaxed about it, and can even kiss their hands,” he said.

He added that the rakyat can support and vote for their preferred party candidate and even become a candidate for political parties themselves, he said, but they should not become fanatical.

“There are many people like this, they just look at the logo only.

“Some people sometimes look at the logo because they want money,” he said.
