Dr Mahathir Mohamad continues to discuss political matters even when hospitalised for a lung infection, according to Bersatu president Muhyiddin Yassin.

Muhyiddin had visited the former premier at the National Heart Institute in Kuala Lumpur on Monday.

“(He) looked healthy and jovial.

"It's just that I gave him a little bit of advice, not that I'm a doctor, but as (party) president. I told him to take some time to rest. There are many other leaders who can manage the party affairs.

"But Mahathir's spirit is remarkable, even in the hospital, all he did was talk about the party, and the country's future," he told a press conference in Petaling Jaya this afternoon.

Muhyiddin (photo) urged all Malaysians to continue praying for Mahathir's quick recovery.

The 93-year-old Bersatu chairperson was admitted to IJN last Friday. 

Mahathir had been on a campaign blitz for Pakatan Harapan, which he chairs, as the coalition's prime ministerial candidate.

He had been crisscrossing the country for speaking engagements, many of which are held at night.

His current hospitalisation, however, has resulted in some of his events being cancelled.
