The latest gimmick from Sungai Besar Umno division leader Jamal Yunos of handing an RM7 billion "donation" to Bersatu this morning has been received with cynicism by the Umno splinter party.

Bersatu Youth chief Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman mockingly responded to the controversial Umno leader’s stunt in an exclusive KiniTV video.

“I wish to express my thanks to Jamal Yunos for his willingness to donate RM7 billion to Bersatu.

“It is obvious that Jamal is richer than the wealthy Arab who donated RM2.6 billion into the accounts of Prime Minister Najib Razak,” Syed Saddiq said, in a sarcastic reference to the funds found in the prime minister’s bank account.

Najib has repeatedly insisted that the RM2.6 billion was a Saudi donation, and was not used for personal gain.

Attorney-general Apandi Ali had cleared Najib of any wrongdoing in January 2016, and said that the PM had returned a portion of the money which had not been used.

Meanwhile, Syed Saddiq also “praised” Jamal for his willingness to donate to the opposition instead of Umno or another BN component party.

"It's so nice of Jamal to donate to Bersatu and not Umno/BN."

Jamal, who has attained a level of infamy for his political gimmicks, claimed earlier today to have made the RM7 billion donation to Bersatu so that the party would no longer continue to ask the public to donate to its fundraising campaign.

However, his mock cheque was made out to "Parti Bunga Bersatu Malaysia."

He also brought with him a personal cheque for a purported sum of US$1.8 billion, though the actual amount deposited is unclear.

Jamal had shown reporters a receipt for the cheque deposited into Bersatu's account, but obscured the amount printed on it.

Good publicity

Syed Saddiq stressed that Jamal’s antics would ironically raise the public profile of the opposition party’s fundraising drive.

“What you are actually doing is attracting the attention of more potential donors to find out that Bersatu is in need of funds.

“To that end, we call on everyone, regardless of race, religion or political leanings to help us in this noble battle for a new Malaysia,” he said.
