Federal Territories mufti Zulkifli Mohamad Al-Bakri has written an open letter to local celebrity Neelofa Mohd Noor, one day after the controversial launch of her latest headscarves collection at a local nightclub in Kuala Lumpur.

"Writing an open letter to Hajjah Neelofa. For our collective reminder," said the caption on a image of Zulkifli writing a letter in his office.

The image was shared on his Facebook page, and attracted more than 8,000 reactions and over 500 comments, largely praising him for being diplomatic in issuing a reminder on the issue of a woman's aurat (modesty). 

In a series of images and videos on her Instagram account, Neelofa had last night shared various moments from the launch of her latest headscarves collection, also held in conjunction with her 29th birthday celebrations.

The Instagram posts courted criticisms from certain quarters, who questioned her decision to launch an article of clothing associated with women's modesty at a nightclub.

They also claimed that women who wore the headscarves and were seen dancing in the videos had acted inappropriately, or not befitting the image of a Muslim woman.

Malay-daily Sinar Harian later quoted Neelofa as saying she would ignore her critics, as she knew exactly what she was doing.

According to its official website, Neelofa's latest range of turban shawls launched last night had sold out in most of the 51 colours on offer.
