Runner mowed down in Klang marathon dies

Evelyn Ang Gek Suan, 44, who was in a coma for three months after being hit by a car while taking part in the 2017 Klang City International Marathon, died at the Sungai Buloh Hospital today.

Klang North Police chief Mazelan Paijan said the police were informed about the death of the woman at 6.50am.

"She was confirmed dead at 1.13am by the doctor treating her. The cause of death was severe head injuries due to the accident," he said in a statement to the media.

In the incident on Dec 10, Ang was reported to have been injured along with two others after being rammed from behind by a car at Batu 2, Jalan Kapar, Klang.

The two others are Amiruddin Hamid, 37, and Ahmad Hadafi Jus, 42.

Mazelan said Ang's body was claimed by family members at about 10.30am, and was taken to Cheras.

The police had previously stated that the organiser had not obtained a licence from the Sports Commissioner to hold the event.

On Feb 20, Teoh Thiam Lim, 28, a mechanic, was charged in the Klang Magistrate's Court for dangerous and reckless driving in the incident. The accused pleaded not guilty.
