Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak has outlined five weaknesses in the Pakatan Harapan-governed Selangor.

Topping his list was the water woes in the state.

“On Friday morning, there was a shortage of water supply and everyone was upset,” he said, blaming this on the state government's alleged poor water management.

On the contrary, Najib pointed out there are no water-related problems in the PAS-ruled Kelantan.

According to him, the difference is that for Harapan, it is politics and not the people's needs that come first.

“They (Harapan) take politics into account, we (BN) look at the problems of the people,” he added during a speech in Hulu Selangor.

He said Selangor's water problems were at a critical level, as water quality continued to deteriorate, suffer from low pressure and bad customer service. 

"So what is the solution? Tukar (change) and take Selangor. We promise to solve the water woes once BN takes Selangor," said Najib.

The second weakness, Najib said, is housing, where the price of affordable houses is too high, approval is snail-paced and there is a lack of low-cost houses.

“Selangor has increased taxes and because of this, house prices have increased,” he added.

The prime minister said the third weakness is property assessment tax and the fourth is the amount of rubbish and inadequate disposal.

“The fifth (weakness) is dirty rivers, congested here and there. Selangor is the national champion in terms of dengue,” he added.

In a statement later, the Selangor Menteri Besar's Office said the water situation in the state was a priority for Menteri Besar Azmin Ali.

Its strategic communications director Yin Shao Loong said Azmin had during the state exco meeting this morning summoned Pegurusan Air Selangor Sdn Bhd on an update on the incident yesterday.

"Repairs were carried out at the Sungai Selangor Phase 3 (SSP) water treatment plant yesterday to help restore water to parts of the state but a burst Surge Vessel System caused serious injuries to several people."

He added that the repairs were completed two hours ahead of schedule but the incident caused delays to the restoration of water supply.

"We hope the public will be patient as Selangor’s water service recovers from this unforeseen accident.

"The menteri besar extends his prayers for those injured in the line of duty and wishes for their speedy recovery," said Yin.
