PARLIAMENT | Federal Territories Minister Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor shared a light-hearted moment in Parliament today with PKR lawmaker Nurul Izzah Anwar after the latter told him to smile.

Nurul Izzah told the minister to smile and not get angry after he raised his voice while answering Nurul Izzah's party colleague Tan Kee Kwong's question on the government's rent-to-own scheme.

Responding to Nurul Izzah, Tengku Adnan said: "For you, I'll smile", to laughter from those present in the hall.

"My face is like this but I have a good heart.

"Don't worry, okay. Don't worry, be happy. Wilayah Persekutuan, you got me," joked the minister.

Earlier, Tengku Adnan, who is better known as Ku Nan, told Tan that those who apply for the rent-to-own scheme do not need to pay the downpayment for the particular property.

Tan (photo) had asked whether the government would consider the rent-to-own scheme for those who face problems in forking out money for the downpayment.

"Maybe Yang Berhormat doesn't understand the rent-to-own scheme that we offer.

"This is the problem with the other side (the opposition), they don't understand. When you don't understand, (you should) ask, he said.

Meanwhile, Tengku Adnan expressed surprise to Nurul Izzah who cited a complaint that was published by Utusan Malaysia that certain connections had been used in the buying of Federal Territories Affordable Homes (Rumawip) units which have rendered many Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) staff unable to buy them.

While denying this, Tengku Adnan said he will inform his staff at the ministry on the matter.

"Because sales is done by the ministry and not the developers or the developers' agents.

"There are no middlemen. I will ask my officers to investigate what had happened," he said, adding that he also welcomed more information on the matter.
