GE14 | Selangor BN chairperson Noh Omar has confirmed that he has not been shortlisted as BN's candidate for the Selangor menteri besar post.

When asked whether Selangor Umno had a list of prospective candidates for the post, Noh said he was leaving it to Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak to decide.

"(What I know) is that I'm not in the list," he told reporters at a press conference in Kuala Lumpur today.

Noh had previously said he has no ambition to become the next menteri besar, should BN recapture Selangor.

Meanwhile, Noh said he was in the dark about whether Isham Jalil, a special officer to Najib, was a prospective candidate for the menteri besar post.

"I wouldn't know. I don't even know whether I, myself, will be contesting or not," he said when asked to comment on the matter.

Highly-placed BN sources had claimed that the most likely candidate for the Selangor menteri besar post was Isham (photo).

The 41-year-old is highly qualified academically, having studied politics, economics and law at Harvard University.

He also studied finance at the Wharton School of Business of the University of Pennsylvania. He now works as a political economist for the Economic Planning Unit (EPU).

He is heavily speculated to be BN's candidate for Paya Jaras, a state constituency near Sungai Buloh.

The sources said Isham's personality and background made him a prime contender to take on someone of current Selangor Menteri Besar Mohamed Azmin Ali's stature.

"In Selangor, we need someone who can compete with Azmin. People only know Noh or Jamal Mohd Yunos.

"While they are famous, both are not suitable. Isham can take on Azmin. He has a good education and he is clean," the sources had said.
