Pakatan Harapan chairperson Dr Mahathir Mohamad's Casio G-Shock watch fetched RM13,000 in an auction during a Bersatu Youth fundraiser in Kuala Lumpur this afternoon.

Bidding for the watch, which bears the former premier's signature, started at RM5,000.

After customisation, the red G-Shock GW9400 – which was purchased by businessperson Mohd Syaqib – costs approximately between RM1,000 and RM2,000.

Met by reporters later, Syaqib said his decision to bid for the watch was becuase "the value of Tun (Mahathir) is priceless."

"(There is) no specific value for change, any value will do. It's not the value of the thing, but the value of contribution towards change," he added when asked how high he was willing to bid.

Syaqib, who joked that he missed the opportunity to register as a Bersatu member before it was temporarily dissolved, described himself as a "supporter in disguise."

Last week, the Registrar of Societies had slapped Bersatu with a provisional dissolution order.

Mahathir, who is Bersatu's chairperson, blamed caretaker prime minister Najib Abdul Razak for the ROS' decision, claiming the latter wanted to stop him from contesting in the polls.

Umno information chief Annuar Musa, however, claimed that Bersatu leaders had deliberately failed to adhere to the ROS' request in order to pin the blame for their party's fate on others.

Last Friday, a Pakatan Harapan fundraiser in Pasir Gudang briefly descended into pandemonium after an auction for Mahathir's watch went awry.

The watch was supposed to be auctioned at the fundraiser today.
