The PAS-led coalition Gagasan Sejahtera (Gagasan) is set to contest in 160 parliamentary seats in the 14th general election, says party president Abdul Hadi Awang.

Speaking at 'Green Waves of Perak' at Seri Iskandar last night, Hadi said PAS, which contested 73 out of 222 parliamentary seats in 2013 general election, will be contesting more seats this time around.

"God willing, with this total (of PAS members and its allies), we will contest approximately 160 seats. Oh, oh, a lot more. It'll be 160 seats," he said to the cheering crowd.

Hadi said PAS currently has 196 divisions nationwide, and approximately one million members.

Yesterday, the party's secretary-general Takiyuddin Hassan announced that Gagasan will contest more than 150 parliamentary seats and a majority of the 587 state seats, excluding Sarawak.

This is the largest number of seats to be contested by any one political party in the country, as it even exceeds Umno's count of 121 parliamentary seats in GE13.

Gagasan was formed by PAS and Parti Ikatan Bangsa Malaysia in March 2016 and they were later joined by Parti Cinta Malaysia. The pact is supported by some 200 NGOs.

Taking a swipe against his archrival, Pakatan Harapan chairperson Dr Mahathir Mohamad, Hadi said the 92-year-old is being fielded in Langkawi because Harapan lacked players.

"I don't want to insult him. I pity him, for he contributed (in the past)... not that he didn't.

"By right (Harapan) should have mercy. Don't do that to the elderly, don't bully like that," Hadi said.

"As I mentioned in Penang earlier (yesterday), let him take care of the 1Malaysia Clinic, to focus on welfare."
