GE14 | DAP will be fielding another former Johor DAP chief, Pang Hok Liong, to contest in the parliamentary constituency of Labis.
The announcement was made by the current Johor DAP chief Liew Chin Tong at a press conference in Labis today, which was broadcast live via DAP veteran Lim Kit Siang’s Facebook page.
The party will also be fielding Johor DAP deputy chief Ramakrishnan Suppiah at the state constituency of Bekok that is located within Labis.
The development came after previous Johor DAP chief Dr Boo Cheng Hau refused to budge from his current state seat of Skudai to contest in Labis.
Lim declined to comment on any questions from the reporters present regarding Boo.
Meanwhile, Pang, who helmed Johor DAP from 1993 to 2005, admitted that he had not been active within the party in the past five years.
“But if we can see the economic and administrative situation in Malaysia now under a very corrupt leader; the calling of the people, the calling of the country, and the calling of the party, I, therefore, rise again to offer my services to the country and to the people,” he said at the press conference.
Meanwhile, Ramakrishnan said he had been working in Labis since 2011, and assured that while there will be challenges, the constituents are ready for change.
He had previously contested in Labis in 2013, but narrowly lost to MCA incumbent and caretaker international trade and industry deputy minister Chua Tee Yong by only 353 votes.
At the press conference, incumbent Bekok assemblyperson Lim Eng Guan thanked the party for allowing him to serve for the past five years, and pledged to help the party campaign in the upcoming general election.
When asked whether Eng Guan will be fielded elsewhere, Kit Siang also declined to comment and asked reporters to wait for the official announcement.
Today’s announcement placed doubts on rumours of DAP legal bureau chief Gobind Singh Deo contesting in Johor.
To date, the only Johor parliamentary seat DAP has yet to announce is Iskandar Puteri (previously Gelang Patah), which Kit Siang is expected to contest.
Prior to the dissolution of Parliament, Gobind was the MP for Puchong.
The number of Parliamentary seats is limited--- 222.And there are 4 Parties in Pakatan Harapan. Every component Party will have to give and take. No Party can demand all the seats it wishes to contest. Seemingly some seats are deemed "safe " ; while some others are considered to be "unsafe ." And yet some others are tough. Where the demand is greater than supply, some sacrifices must be made. Some aspirants will be delighted to be picked; some will be uneasy because the seats are not so safe; and many others will be disappointed for being not selected. Some old blood will have to give way to young blood. This could not be helped because young aspirants cannot wait too long to be picked! In Singapore, hundreds may be invited for tea; and from their inter-relationship, their characters are being assessed. And from the hundreds, the selecting committee may pick a dozen or two to contest! This happens in all democratic nations. It is a tough call, selecting candidates. Finally it boils down to one word" character. " The character of the person in any field of business, including a political party, is the most important trait. We could use another word: integrity. Warren Buffett, the greatest stock-picker, says integrity is the most important in a person. A person may be very smart; may have high academic qualifications ; and may be very handsome. But if he has no integrity, it is pointless to pick him for candicacy or for a position in a company.
Zaids head as swollen as those 4 turncoats in Melaka.
Boo is just a selfish person who only thinks of his own interests and not of the party and PH. He should be discarded like a trash! If he thinks he is so great he should contest as independent and sure lose his deposit,
