Caretaker prime minister Najib Abdul Razak said if he were to list down the slander from the opposition since the last general election, it would be as thick as the Kamus Dewan Bahasa dan Pustaka.

In a blog posting this morning, the BN chairperson noted how he and his family often fall victim to the opposition's slander.

He claimed that opposition leaders who spread such slander do not know the meaning of respect or their responsibilities as an elected leader of the people.

“All they know is to jostle for power without caring about how this is achieved,” he said, once again using the hashtag #Tsunami PHitnah.

The Malay word for slander is “fitnah” but the caretaker prime minister deliberately spelt it with a capital P and H. This is because PH is the often used abbreviation for Pakatan Harapan.

Najib also mentioned several cases of slander in his posting.

During the last general election in 2013, he said the worst slander hurled was that 40,000 phantom voters from Bangladesh were brought to Malaysia using special flights.

Apart from this, he also cited the claim that there were power outages and blackouts at several polling centres.

Najib said it is disheartening that many still believed these allegations despite the evidence showing otherwise and numerous opposition leaders themselves have admitted that it did not happen.

“What is puzzling to me is that this slander, like others, require just a little research and logical thinking to know it is false. But due to the political fervour, many believe it...

“As a result, Malaysians with dark skin, who were born and raised in this country, were accused of being foreigners and forced to sing Negaraku in front of others. There were identity cards (of these Malaysians) which went viral on social media, drawing insults and beratement.

“At the same time, the Bangladesh community who came to this country to earn a livelihood were harassed, abused, belittled and became the victims of hatred due to political slander,” he added.

Subhead – No individual or institution spared

Najib said the opposition did not cease their slander even after the general election and no individual or institution was spared in the process.

“One particular disgusting slander was hurled at a sacred institution which takes care of the welfare of Malaysian Haj pilgrims...

“For years, Lembaga Tabung Haji recorded competitive investment dividends and was praised as a model management of Haj pilgrims.

“In fact, the good relationship between the government of Malaysia and the Saudi government, between King Salman and me, opened numerous opportunities and increased the Haj quota for Malaysian pilgrims,” he added.

However, Najib said, none of this was taken into account when the opposition accused Tabung Haji of suffering losses and claimed that it would not be able to reimburse its depositors.

As a result of this, he said more than 3,000 depositors were misled into closing their accounts.

“The opposition is even willing to hurl such slander.

“Those shortchanged were elderly pak cik and mak cik waiting for years for their turn to go to the holy land, their hope shattered by the opposition's political slander,” he added.

With the 14th general election around the corner, Najib warned Malaysians against becoming an agent of destruction by allowing the slander to spread.
