GE14 | DAP's Bandar Utama candidate Jamaliah Jamaluddin wants voters to look at her record, instead of focusing on her late grandmother, a Communist Party of Malaya (CPM) leader Shamsiah Fakeh.

"I feel what the people need to know is who Jamaliah Jamaluddin is, my background and the community issues that I have resolved.

"Focus on what I can do for Selangorians and Malaysians.

"I am puzzled that people are focusing on my family background. I hope people will focus on the important things," Jamaliah told journalists in Petaling Jaya today.

She said this in response to former Utusan Malaysia journalist Hata Wahari, who attacked DAP for fielding the "granddaughter of a communist".

Jamaliah, who once served as a local councillor with the Petaling Jaya City Council, is ' Aliah' to all her friends and relatives.

She is the grandchild of Shamsiah, who led Angkatan Wanita Sedar (Awas) and was among the more prominent leaders of CPM.

Question on this matter today, Selangor DAP chief Tony Pua said he did not want to prolong any talk on it.

"We need to differentiate between what happened in the past and now.

"Aliah is not a communist. She supports the democratic system and people's rights," Pua said, adding that the people should not link her to the past.
