GE14 | Pakatan Harapan chairperson Dr Mahathir Mohamad has dared the authorities to charge him under the Anti-Fake News Act 2018 over his suspicions his plane to Langkawi had been sabotaged.

“They can charge me in court. I have no fake news, only the truth,” he was reported by Astro Awani as saying today.

He was speaking briefly to reporters while on his campaign trail in caretaker prime minister Najib Razak's home constituency of Pekan this morning, according to the network.

It was reported yesterday Kuala Lumpur police are investigating the nonagenarian's claims of sabotage under the new fake news law.

Mahathir has expressed suspicions over technical problems his private jet faced when he was to fly to Langkawi on the eve of nominations for the 14th general election last Saturday.

He was to depart from Subang airport on Friday but could not do so after the aircraft he charted faced tyre problems.

He later travelled on another aircraft after seeking help from a friend.

Upon arriving in Langkawi, Mahathir claimed the aircraft was sabotaged to thwart his candidacy in the parliamentary constituency the following day.

The long-serving former premier is making his electoral comeback in the Kedah parliamentary seat of Langkawi, this time as head of the opposition coalition Pakatan Harapan.
