UPDATED 11.11AM | GE14 | PKR vice-president Tian Chua said Pakatan Harapan has endorsed independent candidate P Prabakaran to contest and defend the Batu parliamentary seat for the opposition in the 14th general election (GE14). 

Tian Chua, whose real name is Chua Tian Chiang, said the decision to choose Prabakaran has been relayed (to) and approved by Harapan leaders.

"Prabakaran is young and energetic and I will help mentor him as he faces the general election.

"We will be printing pamphlets so that the people of Batu will choose him, and the key symbol. It is important for the Batu seat to remain with Pakatan (Harapan)," said the incumbent Batu MP, who earlier today failed in his bid to defend the seat after his originating summons was rejected by a court. 

Prabakaran, 22, is a law student and is the youngest candidate to contest in GE14. 

Tian Chua said he will be campaigning for Prabakaran in Batu and leaders from Harapan will be called to help in campaigning as there are only five days left for the polls.

Prabakaran was earlier seen in the public gallery of the court but quickly left after Justice Nordin Hassan made his judgment.

Meanwhile, Tian Chua said his lawyers would be appealing today's decision.

"I will also consider of filing an election petition after the election," he said.

Tian Chua was represented by Gurdial Singh Nijhar, Ambiga Sreenevasan and Lim Wei Jiet while senior federal counsel Alice Loke and Suzana Atan appeared for the Attorney-General's Chambers.
