GE14 | Negeri Sembilan BN chairperson and caretaker menteri besar Mohamad Hasan is confident that BN can recapture the two-thirds majority in the state assembly in the 14th general election.

Mohamad, who is fondly known as Tok Mat, said a survey and interactions with the townsfolk during a walkabout, show that support for BN is still strong in the state. 

"We never enjoyed such good rating since the 13th general election.

"We can recapture two-thirds in Negeri Sembilan! " he said while officiating BN's operation room in Seremban.

According to him, the opposition in the state is not "that strong", and BN there is also now united, and not embroiled in infighting, as before. 

Chinese representation needed

He also indicated that if MCA is able to win more seats in GE14, he will reserve exco position for the party's representatives. 

"I want a Chinese representative in my exco," he said.

At a press conference later, he said MCA, which did not win any seat in the last election, is expected to contribute at least two to three seats to BN this time.

He also expressed confidence that MCA can recapture Seremban, a seat that the party lost since 2008.

"I have full confidence on you, Chong," he said, in reference to MCA Youth chief Chong Sin Woon (photo above), who is contesting the parliamentary seat of Seremban against incumbent Anthony Loke from DAP and Shariffuddin Ahmad from PAS. 

Mohamad also downplayed the possibility of a "Malay tsunami" happening. 

He said the large number of attendance at Pakatan Harapan's ceramah in Putrajaya last night, does not necessarily translate into votes. 

"We believe the 'Malay tsunami' will not happen."

Negeri Sembilan has 36 state seats. To rule the state with a simple majority, one needs 19 seats, whereas for a two-thirds majority, it is 25 seats.

In the last election, BN increased its seat count by one, amid strong opposition in the state.
