GE14 | Rafidah Aziz has hit back at caretaker prime minister Najib Abdul Razak, who told her not to adopt a holier than thou attitude.

"Compared to a kleptocrat, everyone is definitely holier," she told Malaysiakini.

Najib had said that everyone knew how Rafidah behaved when she was a minister.

"Everyone knows Rafidah, so there is no need for her to try her 'holier than thou' attitude," he was quoted as saying by The Star Online at an event in Kota Marudu, Sabah.

Rafidah, along with former ministers Daim Zainuddin and Rais Yatim, have recently come out to campaign for Pakatan Harapan against BN for Wednesday's polls.

All three former ministers had served under Dr Mahathir Mohamad, who is now leading Harapan.

Among them, Rafidah, who was known as the Iron Lady, has been the most vocal.

The “kleptocrat” allegation against Najib is related to the 1MDB scandal, which US attorney-general Jeff Sessions had described as “kleptocracy at its worst”.

The US Department of Justice (DOJ) has filed several civil forfeiture suits in relation to 1MDB.

Sessions had revealed that 1MDB-linked assets accounted for nearly half of some US$3.5 billion in total proceeds seized or restrained by the DOJ, tied to money-laundering offences.

The DOJ suits also implicated Najib's stepson Riza Aziz and a family friend of the caretaker premier, businessman Jho Low.

Najib has denied abusing public funds for personal gain and Malaysian authorities have cleared him of any wrongdoing in the matter.
