GE14 | MCA president Liow Tiong Lai and his Gerakan counterpart Mah Siew Keong have accepted the people's decision in yesterday's general election.

Liow, who was defeated in the Bentong parliament seat, urged all MCA members to remain united in order to face this challenge together.

He also revealed that a central committee meeting would be called tomorrow to review the election result and its impact as well as to draft a future plan for MCA.

MCA deputy president Wee Ka Siong was the sole survivor among the party's candidates vying for parliament seats when he managed to retain the Ayer Hitam seat.

Gerakan president Mah Siew Keong, who failed to defend his Teluk Intan parliament seat, echoed a similar sentiment.

“Despite the disappointment, we want to thank all Malaysians who offered us help and support in the last few years and also throughout the election campaign.

“We also express gratitude and appreciation for the commitment and hard work of our members and office-bearers,” he said.

Describing the election results as historic, Mah hoped the country would remain united, peaceful and continue to prosper.

“It is a tougher challenge for Gerakan after GE14, but we need to brace ourselves and take it in our stride,” he added.

Mah said the Gerakan leadership would hold a meeting soon to discuss the election result and its next course of action.
