GE14 | Newly sworn-in Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad's first order of business tomorrow would be to set up his cabinet of ministers.

In order to do so, Mahathir said that he would first need to convene a meeting of the Pakatan Harapan's presidential council.

"Tomorrow there is a holiday but I will not take a holiday.

"I will be calling a meeting of the presidential council of Pakatan Harapan because we need to discuss the formation of the cabinet," he told a packed press conference at the Sheraton Hotel in Petaling Jaya tonight.

"Although I am the prime minister, I am bound to consider the views of the other component parties.

"We have to divide the number of ministers between us," he explained.

While PKR president Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail had been named as Harapan's designated deputy prime minister, the four-party coalition has never established any shadow cabinet in the past.

Asked on his strategy to consolidate the parties' different ideologies, Mahathir said Bersatu, DAP, PKR and Amanah would move forward to fulfil promises made in their manifesto.

"We are not going to say, you are a bad guy before or 'you were a dictator before... We should not be harping or quarrelling about the past," he said.

Harapan succeeded in its aim to capture Putrajaya after winning 122 out of 222 parliament seats nationwide.

The 14th general election was the first time in Malaysia's history that BN was defeated at the polls.

Former premier Najib Abdul Razak yesterday said BN would respect whoever is the Agong's choice for prime minister, despite claiming that no one single party had obtained enough seats to form the federal government.

All Harapan candidates had contested on PKR's ticket, except in Sabah, as the Registrar of Societies had rejected their application to be registered as a formal coalition.
