Following BN's shocking defeat in the 14th general election, yet another Umno man has spoken out against former prime minister Najib Abdul Razak, saying the latter should have seen the coalition's and Umno's collapse coming, and that there were issues with his leadership.

Former deputy home minister Nur Jazlan Mohamed was quoted by theSun today, attributing BN's defeat in the May 9 general election to Najib's failure to address allegations of corruption made against him in 1MDB-related issues.

"Don't tell me he does not read social media like Facebook and Twitter, about issues touching on him and his family? Impossible.

"In politics, he, as the leader of a party, should have known that all these negative perceptions against him and the family would eventually cause Umno and BN's defeat.

"We lost because of these perceptions, because they are all tied to him," the Umno supreme council member and former Pulai MP, was quoted telling the daily in a phone interview.

Nur Jazlan's scathing remarks come just days after Umno Youth leader Khairy Jamaluddin said in Channel News Asia interview that he regrets not telling Najib about how grassroots had rejected Umno following the "purging" of Muhyiddin Yassin and Mohd Shafie Apdal from the party.

The Rembau MP said that Umno had become so "drunk" on power that it became "delusional" and thought it was invincible.

Following the May 9 loss, Najib resigned as Umno president and BN chairperson.

'Najib must answer'

According to Nur Jazlan, as a senior politician with over 40 years of experience, Najib should have noticed that Umno's approval rating was plunging since the 1MDB issue surfaced in 2014.

Nur Jazlan then said that Najib must be answerable to allegations made against him and his family during his tenure as party president.

"Before the elections, Umno's fate has always depended on him. Now that we have lost, he has to answer to all the allegations hurled at him to restore Umno and BN's credibility, if he believes they are untrue," he said.

Nur Jazlan said that many Umno members chose to not voice out against Najib previously, due to the respect they had towards Najib, and acknowledged that he, too, had previously spoken out against the party's top leadership but had to tone down after being appointed into the government administration.
