Police have confirmed that two of the three units at the Pavilion Residences in Kuala Lumpur that were searched in an operation belong to former prime minister Najib Abdul Razak's children Nooryana and Mohd Ashman.

The other unit, according to federal Commercial Crimes Department director Amar Singh, is owned by an individual with the honorific title "Tan Sri".

However, the "Tan Sri" was not identified.

Amar was responding to a question on whether the upscale apartment units searched by the police were linked to Najib.

"That will be a part of our investigations. I think it is not proper for me to say (right now)," he told a press conference in Kuala Lumpur.

"We will investigate...," Amar replied when pressed to reveal the identity of the "Tan Sri" in question.

In the May 18 operation, police seized 72 bags containing cash and valuables, as well as 284 boxes of designer handbags, from the vacant units.

Amar revealed that of the 72 bags, 35 contained cash in 26 currencies, amounting to RM114 million.

The value of the remaining bags with jewellery and watches is yet to be ascertained.

Seizures from Najib's residence

Amar also revealed that RM500,000 in cash has been seized from Najib's private residence on Jalan Langgak Duta, on top of an undisclosed amount of foreign currencies and other personal valuables.

"I can confirm that there was cash uncovered. Half a million ringgit, excluding the foreign currencies," he said.

A police team from Bukit Aman's Commercial Crimes Department had on May 16 conducted a marathon search session at Najib's bungalow.

At the time, it was reported that police had only seized some three to four boxes of personal belongings and cracked open a 20-year-old safe.

On complaints by Najib's former lawyer Harpal Singh Grewal that police had indiscriminately seized items belonging to Najib's children, Amar said complainants should furnish proof that the items were bought with their own money

"They can come and claim the item if they can prove that it was bought with their own money," Amar said.

According to Harpal, among the items seized that belonged to Ashman were watches and a laptop, while dresses, shoes and baby clothes were taken from Nooryana’s home.

Harpal and his partner M Athimulan withdrew themselves as Najib's legal representatives on May 22, several hours before Najib was due to be questioned by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission in connection with the SRC International Sdn Bhd case.
