The 'Hope Fund' recently set up by the government to allow the public to donate towards settling the country's debt, continues to gain traction.

Netizens are taking to the Ministry of Finance's (MOF) Facebook page, sharing the screenshots of their payment receipts, both physical and online.

The amount donated range from RM10 to as much as RM3,000.

"Done! I love Malaysia! I am the citizen of Malaysia. I wish to donate a little bigger, but bit by bit, over time, it will accumulate into a mountain," Lin Hussein wrote.

Mohd Asri Zulkifli said: "I have done my part, when is your turn, let's save our country."

Facebook user Panimalar Malar said she did for a better future for her children.

The amount donated matters little, said donor Munirah Syed Abu Bakar, as the issue at hand, is carrying out "duty as a Malaysian."

Some netizens, however, expressed concerns and asked for more transparency in the collection of the fund.

"Until when we should do this public donation? I am worried (in) the next five years, the new government still won't be able to pay up the debt," said user Miley Bun.

Mohd Husaimi Salleh rued the country's financial burden 'falling on the citizens', and said instead of crowdfunding, the government should of plans to improve the country's economy."

“I hope there won’t be any corruption, and Malaysia will be great again,” said Facebook user Benedict Paul.

User Jimmy Joe said the MOF should publish the amount of funds collected on its website, for transparency's sake.

Suhaimi Abdul Manan echoed his sentiment, writing: "MOF, please update us on the amount of fund raised, because I believe many people are curious on how much has the government has collected."

Earlier today, DAP lawmaker Lim Lip Eng said all donations to the fund will be tax-deductible.
