Five Islamic non-governmental organisations (NGOs) in Pahang today lodged police reports against social activist Hishamuddin Rais claiming that he had uploaded a seditious article on the Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Muhammad V on his blog yesterday.

The NGOs are the Persatuan Kebajikan Islam dan Dakwah Islamiah Malaysia (Pekida) Pahang, Pahang Islamic NGO Secretariat (Snip), Pahang Al-Quran Volunteer Organisation, Pahang Malaysian Armed Forces (ATM) Veteran Association and Pahang Sunnah Wal Jamaah Organisation (Aswaja).

A representative of the NGOs, Syed Nasarudin Syed Abd Hadi, said Hishamuddin's action had tarnished the good name of the Agong.

"We strongly oppose the offensive remarks as the blogger had insulted Sultan Muhammad V as well as lowered the dignity of the Malay Rulers.

"I urge the police to investigate the matter and take appropriate action on this," he told reporters after lodging a police report at the Kuantan district police headquarters here today.

Hishamuddin who allegedly uploaded the article on his blog www.tukartiub.blogspot.com also inserted the alleged amount spent for the upkeep of the monarch, which Council of Eminent Persons head of media and communications A Kadir Jasin had uploaded on his personal blog.

However it was said that Hishamuddin removed the statement after a print screen of it was widely spread on social sites.

Hishamuddin had lodged a police report saying an article on the Agong, which was not written by him, had been uploaded on his blog without knowledge.
