The Prime Minister's Office (PMO) has yet to get any confirmation about Alibaba founder Jack Ma coming to meet Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad. 

"There is no confirmation yet about Jack Ma coming to meet Tun.

"I don't know, maybe they are excited. But it is not on Tun's schedule yet," a PMO spokesperson told Malaysiakini. 

He was responding to a report in The Malaysian Insight (TMI) earlier today that the billionaire businessperson is due to fly to Kuala Lumpur to meet Mahathir, in a bit to "save" his flagship project, the Digital Free Trade Zone (DFTZ).

According to the report, the meeting is likely to take place after Mahathir's visit to Japan for the Nikkei conference from June 10 to 12, and a local businessperson is helping to arrange the meeting between the premier and Ma. 

Meanwhile, Bersatu supreme council member Kadir Jasin also had no knowledge of Ma requesting an appointment with the prime minister.

Kadir, however, noted that Ma had met Mahathir before the May 9 general election.

On May 23, Chinese daily Nanyang Siang Pau had reported that the meeting would take place soon in Putrajaya.

This came after Putrajaya announced its plan review mega projects under the administration of Najib Abdul Razak.

Ma's DFTZ is the world’s first special trade zone that will promote the growth of e-commerce by providing a state-of-the-art platform for SMEs and enterprises to conduct the businesses and services.

It is made up of three main components that combine physical and virtual zones.
