UPDATED 10.45AM | The police said they were forced to break into lawyer Siti Kasim's home in Segambut Dalam to ensure her client, who had locked herself inside, did not harm herself or others.

"While trying to save her, the victim (the client) refused to cooperate by locking herself in the house.

"To make sure she did not hurt herself or others, the police were forced to break into the house," the Selangor Criminal Investigations Department said in a statement today.

Siti has since been arrested by the police and held under Section 186 of the Penal Code for obstructing a public servant in the discharge of his duties.

Malaysiakini understands that Siti will be brought to the Kajang courthouse today. 

The statement from the police sought to clarify last night's events, after Siti took to Twitter to say that police "crashed" her home, broke down her door, and removed her client.

The police said they were "rescuing" a woman from a condominium in Segambut Dalam, following a report lodged by the client's mother.

The mother had said that Siti kidnapped her daughter on June 21 while she was undergoing a psychiatric evaluation at the Kajang Hospital.

The statement also noted that police officers themselves lodged reports against Siti over an earlier incident at the hospital.

"Police reports were also lodged by officers who were escorting the woman in question about an incident at the evaluation ward, where Siti forced her way in even though the security guards tried to stop her," the statement read.

Police added that Siti's client was sent back to the hospital to complete her psychiatric evaluation after her extraction last night. 

The case had initially been classified under Section 363 of the Penal Code for kidnapping, but this was later dropped.

'She didn't kidnap me'

In a Facebook video of the incident at Siti's house last night, the client is heard saying, "That's not true, she (Siti) did not kidnap me" from behind a half-opened door. 

Siti had claimed in a Facebook posting on Thursday that her client was "abducted" by the Selangor Islamic Department (Jais) and police.

This followed reports purportedly lodged by the client's mother claiming that her daughter was mentally unstable and that her "faith (aqidah) was in question."

A woman claiming to be the client's aunt told Malaysiakini that the client's mother has a history of abusive behaviour, including towards her siblings and their mother.

The client had reportedly moved out after allegedly being strangled by her mother. 

Fearing reprisal from the mother, the aunt said that her niece decided to stay with Siti, whom she had been in contact with.

After her client was taken away by the police, Siti went to the Kajang district police headquarters, where she was later arrested.
