Riza Aziz, the stepson of former prime minister Najib Abdul Razak, was grilled by the MACC for nine hours today in relation to its probe into the scandal surrounding state investment firm 1MDB.

Riza left the commission's headquarters in Putrajaya – where Najib is also being detained – in a Black Audi car at 10.30pm, and did not stop to respond to questions from reporters. 

A source within MACC said that Riza has been asked to return to the headquarters at 2pm tomorrow for further questioning.

Riza, clad in a yellow t-shirt and black blazer, had arrived at the headquarters at 1.30pm this afternoon to have his statement recorded.

He heads Red Granite Pictures, the film production company behind Martin Scorsese’s 2013 film The Wolf of Wall Street, featuring Oscar-winning actor Leonardo DiCaprio.

The US Department of Justice (DOJ) has claimed that US$64 million in allegedly misappropriated 1MDB funds had been wired to Red Granite and used to finance the production of several Hollywood movies. 

The sum was part of US$238 million in allegedly stolen funds that the DOJ believes were transferred to accounts controlled by Riza.

The company maintains that it did not knowingly use stolen funds to finance its films.

Riza is also accused of using the funds to purchase luxury properties from businessperson Jho Low.

According to the DOJ, he had also previously claimed that US$94 million of the 1MDB funds he received was "a gift."
