Nufam urges gov't to reopen, review issues related to MAS

The National Union of Flight Attendants Malaysia (Nufam) is urging the government to re-open and review all issues of wastage, leakage and mismanagement in Malaysia Airlines (MAS).

President Ismail Nasaruddin claimed no improvement was seen in MAS even after the airline had gone through the restructuring process which began in 2015.

"The losses incurred to date, according to our records, stand at more than RM15 billion.

"We had our financial aviation people study the losses from 2005 right until 2014," he told reporters after meeting the Council of Eminent Persons in Kuala Lumpur today.

He said after 2014 until now, Nufam had not received MAS' profit and loss financial reports.

"We wonder what is going on with the airline today. They said they have no money but they are still continuously purchasing new aircraft.

"We want to know how MAS lost billions of ringgit. Until today we do not know where the assets are and how it has been distributed," he said.

Meanwhile, Ismail also urged the government to relook the composition of MAS' board of directors and the management as there were many political appointees.

"We want professional people and experts from the aviation industry to run the airline today," he added.
