A durian seller sustained five stab injuries when he was assaulted by several Myanmar nationals, one of them a UNHCR-certified refugee, in Selayang this morning.

In the 7.30am incident, the 23-year old man was said to have just stepped out of his house and was heading towards his car when he was set upon by the three men who intended to rob him.

Sentul police chief ACP R Munusamy said the victim was carrying a pouch bag containing cash from the sale of his durian.

Munusamy said the victim sustained two stab wounds behind his right shoulder, one behind his left shoulder, one on his back and one under his chin.

The victim was sent to the Selayang hospital and is reported to be in weak condition.

A police officer who witnessed the incident was able to nab one of the suspects with the help of the public. He was arrested with the screwdriver used in the assault in his hand.

Munusamy said the suspect was a 21-year old man who holds a UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR) card.

Police are in the midst of tracking down his two accomplices.
