After courting flak for his controversial tweet, Seputeh Umno vice-chief Razlan Rafii has apologised to the family of DAP assemblyperson Eddie Ng, who was killed in a road accident this morning.

“I want to express my condolences and sympathy to the family over the passing of Ng.

“Sorry to his family, may everything be calm there,” he said in a posting on Twitter this afternoon.

He also mentioned the Twitter handles of DAP Malaysia, Malaysiakini BM and Free Malaysia Today in his post.

Razlan did not specifically refer to his earlier remarks in his apology.

However, it appears that he deleted the controversial tweet in question, which read: "A person who likes to slander and possesses a vile heart ('hati busuk') towards Malaysians is dead. One less person who slanders! Malaysia is peaceful! RIP."

He received brickbats from netizens, as well as from former Umno minister Khairy Jamaluddin, for his initial tweet.

Khairy, who was also the former Umno Youth chief, had also gone on Twitter to express his displeasure over Razlan’s remark.

He urged Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi to “show leadership” by condemning Razlan’s controversial posting.

Razlan had also clarified to Malaysiakini that he never meant to insult anyone with his earlier posting.

Ng was killed in a road accident this morning. The 40-year-old father of three died on the spot due to head injuries.
