Kit Siang: MCA and MIC should ‘close shop’ for ambivalence on Lokman

MCA and MIC should “close shop” for failing to state whether they supported BN’s Sungai Kandis by-election candidate Lokman Noor Adam, said DAP parliamentary leader Lim Kit Siang.

In a statement today, Lim said he had urged MCA and MIC three times to state their stand on whether they wanted Lokman to win or lose the by-election.

“Now that PAS has officially urged support for Lokman... I am going to ask the MCA and MIC national leadership for the fourth and final time.

“In six days, do they want Lokman to win or lose in the Sungai Kandis by-election,” said Lim.

He said MCA should not even contest in the Sept 8 Balakong by-election if they cannot state whether they supported Lokman for Sungai Kandis.

Last night, two PAS central committee members, Khairuddin Aman Razali and Nasrudin Hassan joined Lokman on the campaign.

Khairuddin said PAS was left with no other option but to urge Sungai Kandis voters to reject Pakatan Harapan candidate Mohd Zawawi Abdul Mughni to signal their unhappiness towards the ruling coalition.

He said that Harapan's administration policies were detrimental to Islam and the economy, it had twisted historical facts, attacked the royal institution and sidelined the Malay language.

Some 70 percent of Sungai Kandis voters are Malay and PAS’ candidate had managed to garner about 18 percent of the vote during the May 9 polls.

Checks by Malaysiakini suggested that there is little evidence to show that MCA is as heavily invested in Sungai Kandis as compared to previous by-elections.
