Body of drowned Setiu pupil found

The body of a Year Six pupil who was reported missing while bathing at the Setiu Boardwalk, Kampung Pengkalan Gelap in Setiu, Terengganu, yesterday, was found at 7.30am today.

Setiu Fire and Rescue Station chief Mustafa Ismail said the body of Muhammad Nor Hafizul Norizan, 12, was found by his uncle when climbing a tree near the river in search of his nephew.

“When climbing the tree, he saw the victim’s body floating on the surface about 650 meters from the scene and informed the fire station,” he said when contacted by Bernama today.

The body was handed over to the police to be sent to Setiu Hospital.

According to Mustafa, the search and rescue operations ended at 8.40am.

The boy was reported to be swept off by a strong current while bathing and looking for clams with several friends yesterday afternoon.
