Lovers detained outside hotel in Perai for pushing drugs

Police detained two lovers believed to be drug pushers and seized various types of banned substances worth RM14,872 in front of a hotel in Taman Inderawasih, Perai yesterday.

Seberang Perai Tengah District police chief Nik Ros Azhan Nik Abdul Hamid said a police team which was conducting the Ops Pencegahan Jenayah (Crime Prevention Ops) in the Perai area checked the car the couple were in as they were seen behaving suspiciously outside the hotel.

“At the time of the check at 6pm, there was only the driver of the car, a man aged 26 years, while his lover, 23, had gone into the hotel.

“After checking the car, police found various types of drugs including some hidden in the roof of the Honda. Among the items seized were 40.45gm of methamphetamine, heroin (183.7gm), ketamine (24 gm) and ganja (24gm)," he said in Bukit Mertajam today.

He added that police also seized wrapping plastic, a notebook, a sheathed knife, drug inhaling equipment, and a weighing machine.

Nik Ros Azhan said police checked the room the couple were staying in and the woman was not there but she was later apprehended behind the hotel, believed to be trying to escape.

He said initial investigations found that the couple had been involved in drug distribution activities in the state for several months and results of urine tests conducted on them were positive for drugs.

“The jobless couple were believed to be earning thousands of ringgit each month from their drug distribution activities. They are now being remanded seven days to help in the investigations,” he said.

In a separate development, Nik Ros Azhan said police detained a 22-year-old man involved in a robbery attempt, resulting in a woman tuition teacher suffering injuries in Taman Budiman, here recently.

The man was detained in a raid on a house in Kampung Binjai, Cherok Tokun here at about 5.20am today, and investigations found that he had been involved in several other robbery cases.
