NGO Pemantau Malaysia Baru today challenged MACC to reopen investigations on Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad based on reports previously lodged by current Pakatan Harapan leaders.

One of the NGO members Zamil Ibrahim, who was among some 100 people who protested in front of Istana Negara this evening, said that they give MACC chief commissioner Shukri Abdul 48 hours to act on the reports.

In his speech, Zamil, who is a former PKR central leader, said they also want the Yang di-Pertuan Agong to review Shukri's reinstatement into MACC by the Harapan government.

He claimed that Shukri was a coward and abused his power to put down Barisan Nasional leaders.

"When he was stepping down from MACC (as its deputy chief commissioner in 2016), Shukri had delivered a speech where he told his colleagues to carry out their duties properly as they would be questioned in akhirat (afterlife) later if they cover up cases.

"I want to ask him now, wouldn't his conduct today be questioned?

"We want to request the Yang di-Pertuan Agong to review Shukri's appointment […] because he failed to execute his responsibilities as MACC chief, (abusing his power) to put down BN leaders.

"Where are all the reports that had been lodged by PKR leaders against Dr Mahathir and his children? We want him to reopen them. I give him 48 hours," he told the crowd.

During the 9pm demonstration, the group also demanded for action to be taken against those whom they said had insulted the royal institution.

Pemantau Malaysia Baru president Lokman Noor Adam in his speech said the NGO had lodged three police reports against the media advisor to the government Kadir Jasin, activist Hishamuddin Rais and former Batu Berendam MP Tamrin Ghaffar for allegedly insulting the royal institution.

He claimed that no action had been by police over the reports.

Lokman said they also plead with the King to stop the current government from using the Anti Money Laundering Act (Amla) as the new Internal Security Act to get at BN leaders.

He said the group had delivered a memorandum on these issues to the palace on Monday.

Also present at the protest were artiste Elly Suryati, Srikandi Muslimah's Wan Asshima Kamaruddin and several representatives from Puteri Umno as well as the NGO's state chapters.
