Federal Commercial Crime Investigation Department (CCID) chief Amar Singh became a household name following the investigations related to former premier Najib Abdul Razak and the raids on residences linked to the latter, which led to a massive haul in cash and valuables.

Now, Amar is looking at the prospect of becoming a movie star and has set his sights further than Bollywood.

The stern-looking senior police officer joked about this during a press conference in Kuala Lumpur this morning, when asked how he felt about a movie being in the pipeline regarding the 1MDB scandal.

He had reporters in stitches when he quipped about playing a role, especially with regard to scenes depicting the raids.

“I have no comment. I am about to read the book (Billion Dollar Whale). Probably, they need to call me to act in the part for the raids in Pavilion. I know you wanted me to say that,” he said.

Earlier, it was reported that Malaysian actress Michelle Yeoh would team up with Ivanhoe Pictures to produce a movie based on the Billion Dollar Whale book, which chronicles the 1MDB scandal and the exploits of its alleged mastermind Jho Low.

The book was penned by Wall Street Journal journalists Tom Wright and Bradley Hope.

Another person who quipped about embarking on an acting career through this movie was former minister Rafidah Aziz.

During the book's launch in Kuala Lumpur on Tuesday, where Wright was present, she quipped: “Do I have a starring role somewhere? As the person who discovered Equanimity?

“[...] I was diving and my diving instructor was right there in front of me, and he said ‘don’t go into the marina, go that way’ - there’s the Equanimity there [...] and I piloted his boat and there it was in its full glory.

“I circled around until someone’s wife said ‘they might have binoculars looking at who is spying on the boat’,” she added.

Rafidah also offered Wright the original photographs and videos, saying that she would do this as a service and did not require payment in return.

The Equanimity superyacht allegedly belongs to Jho Low and was purchased using funds siphoned from 1MDB. It is reportedly worth US$250 million.
