Heavy rain, strong winds cause havoc in Klang

Heavy rain and strong winds this evening in several areas in the Klang district damaged vehicles, public amenities, buildings and houses.

However, there were no reports of injury in the incident which began at 2.15pm.

At 2.45pm, an uprooted tree badly damaged three cars in Taman Berkeley here.

One of the cars, a Perodua Myvi, belonged to Seah Ah Hooi, 67. He said he had just repaired the engine and changed the tyres of his car.

“But I'm thankful that I was not in the car when the incident happened," he said to reporters at the scene of the incident.

Bernama learned that trees were uprooted and traffic congestion occurred in more than 20 areas in the Klang district, especially along Jalan Tengku Kelana, Jalan Tepi Sungai and Jalan Taiping.

The communications unit of the Klang Municipal Council (MPK) said in a statement that it had directed all departments to get involved in clearing uprooted trees which blocked roads.

Selangor Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department chief Azman Shariat said traffic flow was generally slow due to the rain and uprooted trees lying on roads.

He said that in North Klang, trees were uprooted along Jalan Sireh at the exit to Taman Seratus and right up to Jalan Batu Tiga Lama.

“Only one lane of the Musaidin Bridge, from South Klang to North Klang, was open due to uprooted trees,” he said, adding that the police were controlling traffic as the MPK personnel cleared the trees.
