Abandoned baby found with dog bites in Seri Kembangan

Two abandoned babies were found yesterday and earlier today, one dead and one still alive, in two separate places in the country.

In Seri Kembangan, a baby boy was found early this morning with injuries, believed to be from dog bites, near a convenience store in Jalan PSK1.

Acting Serdang police chief Mohd Rosdi Daud said police were informed of the discovery by members of the public who found the baby, wrapped in cloth, at 4.13am.

“There were injuries on the baby’s legs and knees, believed to be from dog bites. The baby is believed to be a few days’ old and the race has not been determined,” he said in a statement.

Rosdi added that the baby has been sent to the Serdang Hospital and placed in the Neo-Natal Intensive Care Unit and is now in stable condition.

The case is being investigated under Section 317 of the Penal Code for child abandonment,” he said.

Members of the public with information relating to the case are urged to contact the Serdang police headquarters to help in the investigations.

Meanwhile, in Kota Kinabalu, police found the body of a baby boy in a disused pond in Kampung Binsuluk, Membakut, at about 12.45pm on Saturday.

Beaufort police chief DSP Azmir Abd Razak said the dead baby’s body was found floating in the pond.

“Checks done at the scene found the baby to be a newborn, developed and full-term, and was still attached to the umbilical cord, but was decomposed and smelling,” he said in a statement here today.

Azmir said the pond was in an abandoned area which was overgrown with lalang, accessed through a deadend road.

He added that the baby’s body was referred to the Kuala Penyu Hospital before it was sent to the Forensics Department of the Queen Elizabeth Hospital here for a post-mortem.
