PKR POLLS | PKR president-elect Anwar Ibrahim acknowledged complaints of money politics in the party polls and lashed out against the alleged perpetrators.
"This vote-buying is the useless work of Satan (haprak syaitan).
"You are not great, you have poor character. People support you because of money.
"We struggled for 20 years, this system (of money politics) should not be allowed to return," he said during a talk at Universiti Selangor (Unisel) in Bestari Jaya last night.
Anwar said he could tolerate food being served to voters who may have travelled from afar but outright vote-buying was unacceptable.
The newly elected Port Dickson MP said he had received calls from several leaders complaining that money politics was taking place in the PKR election.
"It is happening - a number of people called me about it but I have asked them to present evidence," he said.
On Monday, PKR deputy president candidate Rafizi Ramli had warned that money was being distributed to buy votes in the party election.
"There is something that makes me go through sleepless nights. Next week (coming Saturday), you all will compete in the division level in an environment never seen before... with money strewn all over the place.
"There will be quarters who will offer between RM100,000 and RM200,000 to the divisions. There are states where voters are given RM100 for a vote.
"I'm mentioning this early so it doesn't shock you when it happens," Rafizi said, adding that there are also those being promised projects in return for votes.
Azmin Ali, who is being challenged by Rafizi for the deputy president position, had also responded on the matter.
Azmin had advised young leaders to emulate the party founders who had struggled for 20 years without having to resort to money or power.
