Political cartoonist Zunar today settled his suit with the police and government at the Kuala Lumpur High Court.

This is over the seizure of his cartoon books and T-shirts sold at a function at the Kuala Lumpur Selangor Chinese Assembly Hall in 2016.

The consent judgment was recorded before Justice Su Geok Yiam, where the police and government agreed to an ex-gratia payment of an undisclosed amount and the return the seized items.

This was revealed by Zunar's lawyer Latheefa Koya, who appeared with Shahid Adli Kamarudin.

Senior federal counsels Kamal Azira Hassan and Saffiyah Omar appeared for the police and government.

Zunar, whose real name is Zulkiflee SM Anwar Ul-Haque, filed the suit last year where he named the inspector-general of police, 17 police officers led by investigating officer M Gunalan, and the government for false arrest, breach of statutory duty, negligence and trespass to goods.

The authorities had seized more than 1,000 of his cartoon books and 100 T-shirts during the 'Tea with Zunar' event on Dec 17, 2016.

In January this year, the case went through mediation but failed to reach a settlement.
