12 Johor Youth and Sports Dept officers remanded over false claims

The Magistrate’s Court here today allowed an application by the MACC to remand 12 Youth and Sports Department officers in Johor for investigation into alleged false claims amounting to more than RM90,000 three years ago.

Magistrate Siti Hajar Ali ordered the officers concerned, who are in their 30s and 50s, to be in remand for three days beginning today, following an application by MACC prosecuting officer Mohamad Anis Redza Muhamad Anuar for investigation under Section 18 of the MACC Act 2009.

Yesterday, 15 officers from the district officers of the state Youth and Sports Department were arrested after giving their statements on the alleged false claims.

However, three of them, a man and two women, were released on MACC bail yesterday.

According to an MACC source, the officers were detained for allegedly conspiring with the contractors involved in organising the League Sports programme in making the false claims.

It involved the programmes in Ledang, Mersing, Muar, Batu Pahat, Kulai, Pontian, Kluang and Kota Tinggi districts in 2015, which actually did not take place.
